filamentdrawings
examples about my ideas on 3D printmaking; idiosyncratic “failures” of the 3D printing process producing unexpected results. I’m not sure how I feel about all of them, but as drawings they’re one way to start thinking about the materiality of this strange filament thing…
I’m particularly interested in the neon yellow “xox” – that was one I printed as an example for my class in november. something happened to the machine during transport, so the y-axis wasn’t returning to the same starting point during printing. this resulted in the interesting staircase effect. I wish all my “failures” were as reliable.
- y-axis binding: staircase effect (original model is perfectly vertical)

- oozing + retracting glitches on extruder: wisps + blobs of ABS
