Architectural Animation

(project proposal)

_____//
The architectural animation project is a temporary site specific video installation that’s informed by local buildings,

graffiti, neighborhoods, transportation routes, and the social + political history of the site. In part, it's an attempt to

aesthetically reframe the new urban landscape that's produced by the current global economic condition.

The process begins by choosing a suitable building that's abandoned or in the process of being foreclosed upon.
Then, historical research of the immediate area will provide the content for the animations projected onto the buildings.
Additionally, historical routes of commerce and public transportation are added to other graphical elements, like graffiti,
that are already present at the site. The animated pieces are then projected on the surface of building, interacting with
elements of the building's architecture.

The project can be reproduced for a number of environments, and because it is site-specific, the animation is
commissioned+constructed for each unique location. christian.ryan typically collaborates with exhibition/event
coordinators to select a site that best matches the focus of the exhibition.
